Survivors' Basic Pension is given to a spouse or children in the following cases:

The law amendment enabling the reduction of Pension-benefit Qualified Period to 10 years does not apply to 3 and 4. It will require at least 25 years.
(1) Spouse with a child/children or (2) a child/children, whose livelihood was maintained by an insured person at the time of the person's death

A child/children must currently is limited to be unmarried and:
Child/children who have not reached the first March 31st after reaching age 18.
Child/children who is under age 20 and has either Disability Grade 1 or 2.
On the day before the person dies, the total periods during which insurance premiums were paid and periods during which the premiums were exempted must be 2/3 or more of the National Pension Insured Persons period up to 2 months before the month of the person's death.
However, when the date of death is before April 1, 2026, the premiums payment requirement is considered to be met if there are no periods of unpaid insurance premiums for 1 year up to 2 months before the month of the person's death.
The Survivors' Basic Pension amount is fixed; the basic amount is 780,900 yen/year. Up to two children, 224,700 yen is added per child. For the 3rd child and subsequent children, 74,900 yen is added per child.
