Specified health check-up and Specified health guidance

As part of Japan’s Health Insurance Reform, the specified health check-up and specific health guidance system has been introduced to ensure appropriate medical treatment expenses through reduction of the number of people with lifestyle-related diseases or high risks of developing them and to provide an environment enabling safe and secure medical treatment.

The conventional health check-up and guidance system aimed to achieve early detection and treatment of diseases, whereas this new system places focus on disease prevention by identifying people at high risk of developing life-style related diseases before they suffer such diseases as well as providing advice on healthy diet and lifestyle.Metabolic syndrome serves as a tool for identifying such high-risk individuals.

Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions including abdominal obesity, associated with either two or all of the following: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and lipid abnormality.
