Reduction of salary due to sick leave

Sickness and Injury Allowance

When your salary is reduced due to illness or injury for reasons other than work, the Sickness and Injury Allowance is paid from the fourth day of your leave.

Amount of payment

Eighty percent (80%) of a member’s daily standard salary multiplied by the number of days during the leave (exclusive of Saturdays and Sundays) minus the salary paid by school
[Amount of Sickness and Injury Allowance] = Daily Standard Salary x 80% x Number of actual days on leave - Amount of salary received from school, etc. during the benefit period

Period of payment

  • 1 year and 6 months for illness (other than tubercular illness) or injury
  • 3 years for tubercular illness

Note 1:
Saturdays and Sundays are not covered.

Note 2:
The Sickness and Injury Allowance shall not be paid during the period while the salary which is larger than the amount for the Sickness and Injury Allowance.

Note 3:
The Sickness and Injury Allowance shall not be paid together with the Maternity Allowance.

Note 4:
The daily standard salary is the Monthly Standard Salary (*) divided by 22.
* The Monthly Standard Salary is defined as the average Monthly Standard Salary during the consecutive twelve months before the month when the allowance payment starts.

Note 5:
The Voluntary Continued Insurance Member is eligible for the Sickness and Injury Allowance on the condition that the member’s leave starts before retirement and that the member satisfies the requirements specified in the “Short-term Benefits after membership expiry”.

Note 6:
If the individual is to receive Disability Employees' Pension or other pensions from the same injury, the amount of benefit will be adjusted accordingly.

Supplementary Sickness and Injury Allowance

The Supplementary Sickness and Injury Allowance is payable on and after the day following the expiry date of the Sickness and Injury Allowance, when the member is deemed to require further leave of absence for medical treatment.

Same as the case of Sickness and Injury Allowance

Period of payment

6 months (regardless of tubercular or not)

Note:
The Voluntary Continued Insurance Member is not eligible for the benefit.

Adjustment between Disability Employees’ Pension and Sickness and Injury Allowance

From the month when you start receiving the Disability Employees’ Pension in addition to the Sickness and Injury Allowance, the amount of Sickness and Injury Allowance may be subject to adjustment. PMAC will decide on the adjustment by referring to your medical certificate submitted and the total amount including the pension amount determined.
As a result of our review, we may ask you to return in part or whole the allowance already paid.

Maternity Allowance

The Maternity Allowance is paid when a member’s salary has been reduced or unpaid due to a maternity leave.

Amount of payment

Eighty percent (80%) of a member’s daily standard salary multiplied by the number of days during the leave (exclusive of Saturdays and Sundays) minus the salary paid by school

Period of payment

The number of days of absence from work during the period from 42 days (98 days in case of multiple pregnancy) before the date of childbirth (the due day of childbirth when the delivery was delayed) until 56 days after the date of childbirth

Note 1:
The eligibility for Maternity Allowance is the same with that for Maternity Benefit.

Note 2:
Saturdays and Sundays are not covered.

Note 3:
While the Maternity Allowance is paid, the Sickness and Injury Allowance shall not be paid.

Note 4:
The definition of the daily standard salary is the same as that for the Sickness and Injury Allowance.

Leave Allowance

The Leave Allowance is paid when a member’s salary has been reduced due to absence from work because of an affected or injured dependent, the spouse's childbirth, disaster, marriage or funeral.

Amount of payment (per day)

Sixty percent (60%) of the daily standard salary deducted by the daily salary paid by school

The Voluntary Continued Insurance Member is not eligible for the allowance.

The allowance is not payable during nursing care leave or child care leave for a child or children under the age of elementary school.
